A data coding apparatus and a method thereof are provided to transmit data without using power to thus be easily applied for a field where data transmission device using power is hardly applied. A signal input unit(310) receives an electrical signal of a certain band frequency and converts it into a surface acoustic wave. A surface elastic wave coding unit(320) codes the surface acoustic wave according to an inputted coded signal. A signal output unit(330) converts the coded surface acoustic wave into an electrical signal. The signal input unit includes a plurality of surface acoustic wave converting units successively arranged in the direction that the surface acoustic wave proceeds. The surface acoustic wave coding unit includes a selecting unit for selecting whether to output a surface acoustic wave of each of the plurality of the surface acoustic wave converting units.
