MOTION VECTOR DETECTOR, DETECTING METHOD AND DETECTING PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of detection accuracy at the edge section of a picture in motion vector detection by a block gradient method.

SOLUTION: A method for detecting a motion vector has a means 2 obtaining a difference of pixel values among neighboring pixels and a difference of pixel values among pixels at the same place in the picture at the preceding time frame for each pixel constituting a block. The method further has the means 3 comparing a difference between the difference to each pixel and a difference to the central pixel of the block with a threshold value and deciding whether or not the difference in each pixel must be contained in an addition in computing the motion vector and a means 4 computing the motion vector to the central pixel of the block by using the difference to the pixels decided to be contained in the addition.
