METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING LUMINANCE AND HUE

A method and an apparatus for measuring the luminance and hue of an input image are provided to calculate the luminance average of the entire inner pixels included into a block of which a first distribution and a second distribution are more than a preset threshold value out of the blocks, thereby performing auto exposure controlling and auto white balance adjustment using the measured value to acquire an improved image. A method for measuring the luminance of an input image comprises steps of: dividing the input image into plural blocks(S302); calculating the first distribution(Db) of a first chrominance signal(Cb) and the second distribution(Dr) of a second chrominance signal(Cr) in inner pixels of each block(S303); comparing the first distribution and the second distribution with a preset threshold value(S304); and calculating the luminance(Y) average of the entire inner pixels included into a block of which the first distribution and the second distribution are more than the preset threshold value out of the blocks(S305).
