<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device wherein desired transmittance is obtained in a transmission region and a reflection region when transflective display is performed using a liquid crystal layer having a liquid crystal showing optical isotropy when no electric field is applied and showing optical anisotropy proportional to a square of the intensity of an electric field when the electric field is applied and to provide an electronic device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 100 is provided with the liquid crystal layer having the liquid crystal showing optical isotropy when no electric field is applied and showing optical anisotropy proportional to the square of the intensity of the electric field when the electric field is applied and first and second substrates disposed opposite to each other sandwiching the liquid crystal layer. In the liquid crystal device provided with a sub pixel region 9' wherein a reflection display region R to perform reflection display and a transmission display region T to perform transmission display are provided and first and second electrodes provided in both regions of the reflection display region R and the transmission display region T in the sub pixel region 9' of the first substrate, the liquid crystal layer is driven by the electric field generated between the first and the second electrodes and a third electrode 59 for driving the liquid crystal layer by an electric field generated between the third electrode and at least one electrode of the first and the second electrodes 9 and 19 is provided in the transmission display region T of the second substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
