<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide whether or not an object extracted from an image is an artificial structure efficiently and accurately. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery supervision unit for supervising an object existent in the periphery of a vehicle, including an object extraction means for extracting the object (STEP 200) from the image obtained by an imaging means 2R, 2L, 2' mounted on a vehicle 10, and an artificial structure decision means for deciding whether or not the object of interest is the artificial structure. There provided is a road area identification means for identifying a road area (STEP 100) from the image. The artificial structure decision means decides whether or not it is an artificial structure, based on a first artificial structure decision condition when the object is extracted in the above road area, and decides based on a second artificial structure decision condition different from the first artificial structure decision condition when the object is extracted outside the above road area (STEP 500). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
