PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which prevents rainbow irregularities from appearing in a printing medium. SOLUTION: The printer which carries out printing by scanning a carriage equipped with a print head in a main scanning direction includes a carriage motor 4 which drives the carriage, a controlling means 82 which controls driving of the carriage motor 4, a storing means 41 which stores by a plurality of patterns at least one of speed data of a scanning speed after starting scanning of the carriage and a driving speed of the carriage motor corresponding to the scanning speed and also stores both or one of data of a movement starting position and a movement stopping position of the carriage, a driving mode switching means which switches the pattern of the speed data, a movement position switching means which switches both or one of the movement starting position and the movement stopping position of the carriage, and a switching discriminating means which properly uses the driving mode switching means and the movement position switching means for scanning the carriage.
