PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyolefin excellent in impact resistance, long-term properties and molding processability, with high activities in the respective steps of polymerization. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyolefin by multistep polymerization of anα-olefin is provided, wherein the multistep polymerization is to produce at least a low-molecular weight component and a high-molecular weight component. In the multistep polymerization, a catalyst to be used comprises a solid catalyst[A] and an organometallic compound[B], wherein, the solid catalyst[A] is such as to be prepared by the following process: an alcohol(A-2) is reacted on a carrier(A-1) prepared by reaction between a specific organomagnesium compound(a-1) and a specific chlorinating agent(a-2) followed by reacting a specific organometallic compound(A-3), and carrying the reaction product by reacting a specific titanium compound(A-4) with a specific organometallic compound(A-5); and the organometallic compound[B] belongs to a group consisting of specific organoaluminum compound and specific organomagnesium compound.
