<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicast transfer method and multicast transfer apparatus providing improved utilization efficiency in a PON section band, in an EPON system constituted of one OLT and a plurality of ONUs. <P>SOLUTION: An OLT (101) comprises a VID→LLID transfer section (103), an LLID→VID transfer section (104) and a VLAN identification section (105), an ONU (201) comprises an LLID identification section (203) and a frame identification section (204), the VID→LLID transfer section (103) performs multicast distribution using a logical link allocated for multicast distribution, and the LLID identification section (203) transfers to a user terminal a frame received by the multicast logical link. Furthermore, the frame identification section (204) gives a VLAN tag storing a VID value used for multicast communication to a multicast control frame received from the user terminal and transmits the frame by a unicast logical link allocated to the relevant ONU.
