A solid-state image pickup element is provided with a filter film which has excellent light resistance compared with conventional filter films and is thin. The solid-state image pickup element (1) is provided with a plurality of pixels. Each pixel is provided with the filter film (21) for color separation, and a photoelectric conversion part (17) for converting light which passed through the filter film (21) into charges. Each filter film (21) is a single layer film composed of an inorganic substance, and the optical film thickness of each filter film is adjusted less than a thickness equivalent to a half wavelength of a wavelength of a color to be separated by a quantity corresponding to an absorption quantity of an inorganic substance of light of the color to be separated.
