PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program information display apparatus which is capable of displaying information (such as a synopsis) regarding a program on a black band portion where a video is originally not displayed and displaying various kinds of program information without disturbing program viewing. SOLUTION: A program information display apparatus 10 is capable of displaying information regarding a program on a display screen whereon broadcasting signals can be displayed and horizontal and vertical sizes and sizes of the display screen are different. The program information display apparatus 10 comprises: a CPU 18 for detecting a boundary line of a video signal and a black band portion from a broadcasting signal; a display section 22 for displaying the black band portion in horizontal and vertical directions of the display screen when the boundary line is detected; a digital tuner section 12 for acquiring program information (such as a synopsis of a program) to be displayed on the black band portion; a RAM 17 for holding the acquired program information; and a display processing section 19 for performing processing to display the held program information on the black band portion.
