PURPOSE: A method for gathering/outputting measurement and statistics data is provided to use on-demand statistics data as preventing an overlapped statistics data gathering, so that an operator can control output cycles of the measurement and statistics data according to situations by changing the output cycles, in a present statistics data algorithm in which every statistics data is periodically gathered. CONSTITUTION: A measurement and statistics data processing(MSDP) block of a switching system is composed of a measurement and statistics data processor, a controller, and an on-demand data gathering unit. The switching system operates a statistics processing cycle and an optionally-changed measurement/statistics data output cycle. A method for gathering/outputting measurement and statistics data in the switching system comprises the steps of: if the statistics processing cycle is performed in the measurement/statistics data processor, comparing the cycle with the measurement/statistics data output cycle, and deciding whether the statistics processing cycle has to be output; if a completing signal for a root statistics data gathering is transmitted to the measurement statistics data processor from the on-demand data gathering unit, extracting the measurement statistics data to store the data in a measurement statistics data storage of the measurement statistics data processor; if the statistics processing cycle is the measurement statistics data output cycle, outputting the measurement statistics data; and periodically repeating from the first step to the third step every statistics processing cycle.
