A fiber access network and communication protecting method thereof, the said fiber access network includes: fiber communication system, wireless communication system and communication service switching device. When the fiber between the optical line terminal in the fiber communication system and the optical network unit is broken off, the communication service is switched by the communication service switching device from the fiber communication system to the wireless communication system; after the fiber malfunction has been eliminated, the communication service then is switched back to the fiber communication system by the communication service switching device. The system construction of the invention is simple, a limitation of resources such as pipeline, cable and so on can be overcome by adopting the invention, and the invention also contributes to the utilization of the communication device, thus the communication service of the fiber communication system is effectively ensured.
