PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new sulfonamide compound useful as a polydentate ligand compound containing nitrogen atoms as coordinating atoms. SOLUTION: The sulfonamide compound is represented by formula (I) (m and n are each an integer of≥1 and may be the same or different; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a hydrocarbon group which may be substituted and the whole R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>may be mutually the same or different; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each a bifunctional hydrocarbon group which may be substituted and the whole R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>may be the same or different; two groups selected from R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP>may be mutually bonded to form a 5-8 membered ring; Ar is an aromatic ring-containing bifunctional organic group).
