A method for delaying and outputting a vertical synchronous signal and an image signal processor for performing the method are provided to increase the processing efficiency of a back-end chip and prevent power consumption. A JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group) encoder(420) encodes an image data stream corresponding to an electric signal inputted from an image sensor(110) with respect to a certain frame by a predetermined processing block unit, and generates the encoded image data. A data output unit(430) outputs a vertical synchronous signal for the frame to a receiving terminal in a time when the JPEG encoder(420) stores primary n image data streams to process the processing block corresponding to the frame, and outputs the encoded image data generated by the JPEG encoder(420) to the receiving terminal.
