<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate that is improved in distortion caused by the drying and aging, while maintaining the polarization and durability, and provide a liquid crystal display superior in viewing angle that uses this polarizing plate. <P>SOLUTION: This polarizing plate has a polarizing film, which is 5-18 μm thick and made by extending a film obtained by introducing a polyene structure to a polyvinyl alcohol system film, containing an ethylene-vinyl alcohol system copolymer (A) containing ≤4 mol% of ethylene and an ethylene-vinyl alcohol system copolymer (B), containing higher than 4 mol% but lower than 10 mol% of ethylene, and a retardation plate which is 20-60 μm thick and has a retardation Ro of 30-110 nm and Rt of 70-300 nm.
