<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method and an improved device for controlling a fuel injection system, guaranteeing accurate control of a desired fuel delivery quantity even when an engine speed is high. <P>SOLUTION: This method comprises a step of detecting a fuel required quantity KSB in a present common rail 1 depending on a present travel state of a vehicle, and a step of controlling the duty ratio and a frequency for controlling a flow control valve 3 depending on the detected fuel required quantity KSB in the present common rail 1. This internal combustion engine has the common rail 1, a high pressure pump 2, the flow control valve 3 for controlling a fuel delivery quantity of the high pressure pump 2 to the common rail 1, and a control apparatus for controlling the flow control valve 3.
