<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately reproduce information recorded in a medium with a high density while efficiently executing a retrieval operation and an outline acquisition operation inside the medium. <P>SOLUTION: Near-field light is leached for each recording bit 25 to the medium 2 where the recording bits 25 are formed beforehand, the two or more recording bits 25 formed on the medium 2 are irradiated with propagation light, return light from the medium 2 of the leached near-field light is detected, and also the return light from the medium 2 of the irradiated propagation light is detected by a photodetector 14. First information is extracted by the unit of the recording bit 25 on the basis of the return light of the near-field light detected by the photodetector 14, second information for which the two or more recording bits 25 are turned to one unit is extracted on the basis of the return light of the propagation light detected by the photodetector 14, and the extracted first information or second information is reproduced respectively. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
