METHOD OF MANUFACTURING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an optical fiber having excellent appearance by preventing the ununiformity of a coating diameter due to the vibration at a taking-in time. SOLUTION: A resin is coated on a glass fiber G1 drawn from an optical fiber preform G heated in a heating furnace 2 through a resin coating dies composed of a primary dies 8 and a secondary dies 9 to form the optical fiber G2 which is taken over by a capstan 16 through a direct lower roller 11. The resin is coated on the glass fiber G1 by controlling the relation between the resin pressure P of a primary resin supplied to the primary dies 8 and the resin pressure S of a secondary resin supplied to the secondary dies 9 to S≥1.02P. The fine vibration occurring in the optical fiber G2 is absorbed in a resin application part through the secondary dies 9 to obstruct the transmission of the fine vibration to the resin application part through the primary dies 8.
