PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a moving robot to avoid a step on a runway for the robot moving thereon which is eventually greater than the preset value. SOLUTION: The moving robot 1 to move on the runway 2 structured so that the robot body unit 20 is fitted with a plurality of wheel units 51-53, is equipped with an ahead step sensing means 24 installed ahead of the body unit 20 for sensing an ahead step 4F existing on the runway 2 and the stepping size H of the step 4F and a control means 31 to judge whether the stepping size H sensed by the sensing means 24 is greater than the preset value, and if yes, controls so as to avoid the step 4F.
