PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial peptide of a cyclic or short peptide (having <10 amino acid residues), having a wide antimicrobial activities, exhibiting reduced hemolysis, and having a specific pattern of aromatic and cationic residues. SOLUTION: The antimicrobial peptide having the reduced hemolysis generally comprises <10 amino acid residues, and comprises the amino acid sequence: (A<SB>1</SB>X<SB>1</SB>A<SB>2</SB>)<SB>N</SB>(wherein, A<SB>1</SB>is arginine, lysin, valine or isoleucine; X<SB>1</SB>is tryptophan, phenylalanine or proline; A<SB>2</SB>is arginine, lysin, valine or isoleucine; N is 1, 2 or 3; and topology is cyclic or linear).
