PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and inexpensive image forming apparatus which efficiently carries out recording on both surfaces. SOLUTION: The printer processor 2 is provided with a carrying path 10, constituted of a plurality of pairs of carrying rollers and a feedback path 37 branching from the carrying path 10 and returning to the carrying path 10 on the upstream side of a branch point, and a switchback system for carrying a recording material to the carrying path 10 on the downstream side of the branch point once, thereafter, carrying the recording material in the opposite direction so as to feed the material to the feedback path 37 is introduced for both-side recording; then, the carrying direction at recording the image, for which the accurate carrying is required, is always fixed; and an image recording part 37 is only required, so that the apparatus is simplified and the cost reduction can be attained. Also, the printer processor 2 has a constitution where the image recording part 37 is installed and a reversion mechanism does not project to the outside, then the miniaturization of the apparatus can be attained; and also the image can be recorded on the following recording material, while reversing the recording material by the switchback system, so that the apparatus is improved in efficiency.
