The assembly (15) consists of an undulating structure (20) with a series of mobile elements spaced along its geometrical axis, and a drive that moves the mobile elements perpendicular to the lengthwise axis in offset phases to produce an undulating surface e.g. in a flexible membrane. The mobile elements can be made, for example, in the form of a series of discs mounted eccentrically on a shaft and offset relative to one another to produce the different phases.
