A guard member for increasing the capacity of a mining conveyer is provided with a projecting member which is capable of providing a standing surface for a miner. In Fig. 1, an L-section member 12 is attached to a guard member 11, and a horizontal portion 12a forms a walkway. Tubular pieces 13 permit a further walkway member to be mounted on the member 12 if greater height is required. When the conveyer is to be steeply inclined, adjustable steps 14 are provided. Alternatively, tubular members used as rungs may be removably or permanently secured to the L-section member 12, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). In Figs. 4, 6, a guard extension 21 has keyhole-type apertures 26 to receive bolts 25 provided on step units 23, 24. To compensate for inclination of the conveyer, one end of the step may be located in a lower hole 26. In Fig. 8, steps 23 are pivotable to lie against the guard member 21 when not in use. A bracket 29 is pivoted to the step. In Fig. 9 steps 30 are in the form of flaps pivoted on spindles 31. The steps may be secured in the horizontal position by means, not shown. For supporting a walkway between the conveyer and a longwall lining, a tube 34 receives a rod 33 attached to a bracket 32 on which the walkway rests. |
