ILLUMINATION DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

An illumination device comprises a light source and a bar-like light transmission body. The bar-like light transmission body has an incoming surface for allowing the light from the light source to be incident, a reflecting surface having a plurality of prisms, and an outgoing surface opposite to the reflecting surface. The width between the reflecting surface and the outgoing surface on the incoming surface of the bar-like light transmission body is smaller than the width of the light source in the same direction. This unifies the brightness distribution of the outgoing light of the bar-like light transmission body. A plane-type illumination device is constituted by combining the illumination device with a plate-like light transmission body. A liquid crystal display device is constituted by combining the illumination device with a liquid crystal panel.
