PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for collecting real-time traffic data by using a position registration message of a mobile communication terminal are provided to collect correctly the real-time data by extracting the traffic data from the position registration message used for registering a position of the mobile communication terminal. CONSTITUTION: A mobile communication terminal receives real-time traffic data from a navigation terminal and generates and transmits a position registration message including the real-time traffic data(S110,S115,S120). A local traffic server for managing local traffic information within a predetermined region receives the position registration message. The local traffic server extracts the traffic data from the position registration message and stores the extracted traffic data into a local traffic information management database(S125-S130).
