PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus and method for preventing pinched tail suppression in hot strip to improve threadability of the strip and productivity due to use of high speed steel rolls by perceiving the pinched tail suppression in the strip generated in a hot rolling mill by impact sensors and adjusting a roll gap at both side of the rolling mill. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for preventing pinched tail suppression in hot strip comprising a roll gap control amount operator(50) for operating a roll gap set in other stand installed in rear of the stand by recognizing bending of at a tail end of strip(10) passing through rolling rolls of a stand in a hot finish rolling mill, and a roll gap controller(60) for controlling driving of rolling rolls of the other stand to prevent pinched tail suppression in the tail end of the strip according to a roll gap operated in the roll gap control amount operator, the apparatus comprises impact sensors(40) installed at side guides(30a,30b) for guiding movement of the strip in front and rear of the stands(20), wherein the impact sensors perceive an impact amount generated as the tail end of the strip bent to one side according to rolling reduction applied to the strip from driving and operating sides of the rolling rolls is contacted with the side guides, and the roll gap control amount operator operates a roll gap set in the other stand installed in rear of the stand according to an impact amount measured in the impact sensors.
