PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a uniform read concentration of original read data all over the data in a double-sided original reading apparatus wherein original reading parts are disposed on both sides of an original feeding path to simultaneously read images on both sides of an original. SOLUTION: In a scanner unit 1 wherein the image on the front side of a running original is read by a first running original reading part 3 with a first light source 61 disposed therein and the original on the rear side of the running original is read by a second running original reading part 4 with a second light source 82 of a kind different from the first light source 61 disposed therein, the first light source 61 and the second light source 82 are turned off after image reading is completed in the running original reading part positioned on the downstream side of an original feeding direction.
