The invention relates to a method for treating water in a supply system for water, especially hot-water suitable as potable water. In order to fight pathogenic germs, an effective amount of at least one biocide heavy metal is distributed in the hot-water in dissolved form. Downstream of hot-water outlets of the supply system at least one portion of the at least one dissolved heavy metal is precipitated and removed from the hot-water in the metal form. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the method according to claim 1. Said device comprises a hot-water supply system which is provided with a dosing device for introducing and distributing an effective amount of at least one biocide heavy metal in dissolved form in the hot-water and with outlets for discharging hot-water. Downstream of the blocking devices of the hot-water outlets one precipitator device each is provided for precipitating and removing from the hot-water biocide heavy metal so far dissolved in the metal form.
