<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase transition type optical recording medium having a high storage reliability, which ensures a sufficient modulation degree even under a state wherein the capacity is the same as a DVD-ROM, and a writing line rate is in a range of 3.0 to 35 m/s, and of which the repeating characteristics for overwrite is good. <P>SOLUTION: This optical recording medium is constituted in such a manner that at least a recording layer 3 is provided on a substrate 1, and a reversible phase transition is generated on the recording layer 3 by irradiation with an electromagnetic wave, and the recording/reproduction of information is performed by utilizing the optical variation.
