PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that is improved in skew adjustment accuracy in a manufacturing processing and can automatically correct a skew even when the skew changes with time by detecting and correcting a skew image and a skew amount. SOLUTION: This image reader has a function which corrects the skew by reading an optional pattern arranged near a reference scale 103 by an optical device element, dividing image data into optional amounts of data in a main scanning direction on the basis of obtained data and shifting the data in a sub-scanning direction.
