PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce total control signal to a recording head by using the control signal for transferring print data also serving as the control signal of a nonvolatile memory. SOLUTION: The recorder comprises a head control means for determining whether data being transferred next serially is print data being transferred to the recording head or a data accessing the nonvolatile memory in the recording head based on LOW or HI of data synchronized with rising or falling of a clock, i.e., the latch pulse of the print data for the recording head.
