PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boiler with a preliminary water supply pump, avoiding the case that the operation of the boiler should be stopped when trouble occurs in a main water supply pump because trouble also occurs in a preliminary water supply pump. SOLUTION: The boiler 1 comprises a water level detector 7, water supply pumps 2, 3, and a water supply control device 6 connected to the water level detector and the water supply pumps for controlling the operation of the water supply pumps. The main water supply pump 2 and the preliminary water supply pump 3 are installed in parallel in a boiler water supply pipe 4 for serving as a water supply pump. The main water supply pump 2 is normally used for supplying water to the boiler, and when trouble occurs in the main water supply pump 2, the preliminary water supply pump 3 is used for supplying water thereto. The water supply control device 6 controls the change-over of the water supply pump to be periodically operated from the main water supply pump 2 into the preliminary water supply pump 3 even when no trouble occurs in the main water supply pump 2, to allow the preliminary water supply pump 3 to supply water thereto as well.
