PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 4,4'-biphenol having a good hue. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4,4'-biphenol comprises the following processes (a) and (b). The process (a): a process for subjecting an alkyl-4,4'- biphenol compound represented by formula (2) [T is a 3 to 8C alkyl; (m) and (n) are each 0, 1 or 2, provided that the sum of (m) and (n) is 1 to 4] to a dealkylation reaction in the presence of a phenol compound selected from the group consisting of phenol, monoalkylphenols, dialkylphenols and trialkylphenols under a reduced pressure or under the atmospheric pressure until the production of the monoalkyl-4,4'-biphenol reaches the amount of 5 to 20 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of 4,4'-biphenol, and the process (b): a process for depositing and separating the 4,4'-biphenol from the reaction solution obtained by the process (a).
