PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the fixation temperature of a recording material uniform when fixing an image at a high speed, and to simply and stably form an image of high quality at a low cost and in a short time. SOLUTION: The image forming method has a process for loading a recording medium, an image applying process for applying an image onto the recording medium and a process for thermally fixing the medium with the image applied, and forms the image on the recording medium. The thermal fixation process is constituted of a 1st fixation process of heating the medium with the image applied in a non-contact state and a 2nd fixation process of simultaneously heating and pressing the medium, and the length of a heat generating body arranged in a direction orthogonal to the advancing direction of the recording medium and used in the 2nd fixation process is made greater than the width of the recording medium, and the recording medium is made to pass through an area inside both ends of the heat generating body used in the 2nd fixation process.
