PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device which is made smaller in size by increasing the degree of freedom in terms of the arrangement of a return mirror, and to provide an image forming device equipped with the scanning optical device. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a plurality of light source parts for emitting laser beams, a polygon mirror 21 for deflecting the laser beams, the return mirror 24 arranged in an optical path for guiding the laser beams to a photoreceptor drum, a 1st lens 23a and a 2nd lens 23b as an fθlens group for condensing the laser beam to photoreceptor drums different for each optical path, and the return mirror 24 is arranged between the 1st lens 23a and the 2nd lens 23b. Then, the return mirror 24 can be arranged in the vicinity closer to the polygon mirror 21, then, the degree of freedom in terms of the arrangement is increased, then, the smaller-sized scanning optical device is obtained.
