PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which can minimize lowering of an illuminating function by cutting off a discharge lamp having a trouble. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device is equipped with one or a plurality of discharge lamps 15, a high frequency wave inverter circuit 30 to light the discharge lamps 15 and an error detecting circuit 24 to detect an error of the discharge lamps 15. The error detecting circuit 24 monitors lighting condition of the discharge lamps 15 and/or current flowing at the high frequency wave inverter circuit 30 and detects an error of the discharge lamps 15. When the error detecting circuit 24 detects an error of the discharge lamps 15, the high frequency wave inverter circuit 30 increases voltage applied on the discharge lamps 15, with which, filaments 17, 18 of a discharge lamp 15 generating the error are cut off, then the discharge lamp 15 having an error is practically cut off from the high frequency wave inverter circuit 30. |
