摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the life of refractories of a melting furnace by more correctly evaluating the basicity of incineration ash. SOLUTION: Basicity of incineration ash fed in the ash-melting furnace is found by using an optical basicity. With reference to the optical basicity, acid incineration-ash is fed in an ash-melting furnace, which is lined with acidic refractories on the furnace chamber wall, while basic incineration-ash is fed in an ash melting furnace, which is lined with basic refractories on the chamber wall. When a value of the optical basicity is in the range of 0.5 or less, refractories of SiC or Al2 O3 -Cr2 O3 system are employed for the furnace chamber; when the value is in the range over 0.5 to 0.65, refractories of Cr2 O3 or Al2 O3 -Cr2 O3 system are employed; when the value is in the range over 0.65 to 0.8, refractories of MgO-Cr2 O3 or Cr2 O3 system are employed; and when the value is in the range beyond 0.8, refractories of MgO-Cr2 O3 or ZrO2 system are employed.
