PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle-detecting device for a movable shelf wherein the protrusion of an obstacle-detecting means from the shelf does not invite a sudden braking of the shelf, or does not affect the coming-in/going-out of a carrying vehicle, and in addition, which can surely detect the obstacle by fewer detecting means. SOLUTION: A protruding means which can advance/retract to/from the shelf is provided. Then, the obstacle-detecting means is provided at the distal end of the protruding means. When the shelf is moved, the protruding means is projected in the moving direction of the shelf, and the detection for an obstacle is performed. When the movement of the shelf is stopped, the protrusion from the shelf is made smaller or eliminated, and the protrusion to a passage is eliminated.
