<p>Apparatus for the treatment of sewage sludge comprises a reaction chamber for retaining a volume of sludge undergoing treatment. The sludge in the chamber is aerated and an autothermophilic aerobic digestion reaction is maintained at a sufficiently high temperature for pasteurisation to take place and for a sufficiently sustained period to stabilise the sludge. The temperature may be from 45 to 75{ C and the treatment period be from 5 to 25 days.</p> |
