PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the frequencies of system down of an eraser which irradiates both surfaces of a stimulable phosphor sheet with erasing light. SOLUTION: When a detecting means 100 for detecting the fault state of respective irradiation means 60a and 60b detects a fault of either one of the irradiation means 60a or 60b, the control to extend the irradiation time or to increase illuminance by the other irradiation means 60b or 60a is performed by a control section 106 of a control means 110 without a system down, thereby, sufficient energy is imparted to the sheet.
