PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb shocks caused by engagement and release of a clutch at the time of acceleration. SOLUTION: In this engaging type automatic transmission, an input shaft is rotated by receiving power of an engine. By the rotations of the input shaft, an input shaft is rotated, a driven gear is engaged and released by positive clutches depending on speeds to carry out automatic shift, and the rotations of the input shaft are transmitted to an output shaft of a driving wheel through a drive gear. The input shaft has an assist mechanism that transmits rotating power of the input shaft to the output shaft of the driving wheel for a period where no positive clutches other than a starting clutch is not engaged with the driven gear at a time of switching the positive clutches. Any of the plural positive clutches and the assist mechanism, or both of the plural positive clutches and the assist mechanism is/are constituted of linier motors.
