<p>Distributed storage and maintenance of records in a network of computer nodes. The records may be medical records, each containing immunization data for a single patient. A computer user creates a record at a node of the network, which becomes the control node, or home system, with respect to that record. The user of the control node also specifies a list of recipients, or recipient list, for the record containing the nodes that maintain a current copy of the record. The user also specifies a mesh for the record. The mesh includes a subset of the nodes on the recipient list that the control node authorizes to modify the record and to distribute the modified record to the nodes on the recipient list. A user of the control node can instruct the control node to exercise various control powers that the other nodes do not have over the record. These control powers include adding a new node to the recipient list for the record, adding a new node to the mesh, updating the recipient status of a node on the recipient list, authorizing another node to add a new node to the recipient list, sending portions of the record that keep the patient anonymous to a node conducting an epidemiology study, and relinquishing the control status by transferring these control powers to another node of the network.</p> |
