PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect whether a lead frame is held by chuck pawls, even when the surface state of the lead frame has largely changed due to discoloration. SOLUTION: In this device, a pair of chuck pawls 2, 2 are composed of a conductive material and are electrically insulated from each other, when a lead frame 1 is not held. This device is provided with a conduction detecting unit 5 for detecting electrical conduction between the pair of chuck pawls 2, 2 and an external output terminal 6 as output means for outputting the detected information to the outside. In this method for checking a chucking state, a prescribed voltage is applied between connecting terminals 7, 7 to detect electrical conduction between the chuck pawls 2, 2 and checks the chucking, based on this detected information.
