At least two separate workstations (20,22) are provided, to which workpieces (16) e.g. a battery, are alternately fed so that at all times, in at least one station, a battery is available to be worked on by a tool (24) carried by a shuttle (26) between the stations. As the shuttle carries the tool to a new station, the battery in the first that has been worked on is moved on and replaced by another. The stations are on a conveyor supported by a frame which also carries the shuttle. An independent claim is included for an assembly line. |
