PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a peeling agent for a stratum corneum capable of promoting the decomposition of desmosome in the stratum corneum and thereby promoting the peeling of the stratum corneum without any irritation to skin. SOLUTION: This peeling agent contains one or more kinds of plant extracts selected from the group consisting of an extract from a rhizome of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews, an extract from a fruit of Juniperus communis L., an extract from a rhizome of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosc-hitz var. purpurea Makino or a plant of the same genus and an extract from a caput of Artemisia capillaris Thunb. In this case, the content of the plant extracts is 0.0001-20.0 wt.% based on the total amount of the peeling agent for the stratum corneum and expressed in terms of a dry weight.
