PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the success rate of reading out data and increase the read-out speed by contriving the retry operation. SOLUTION: When all data forming one group cannot be buffered appropriately and the leading data of the group (e.g. start header) are buffered, this reproducing device performs first retry operation (buffering retry) which is not accompanied by access to a read-out position (F179), on the other hand, when the leading data of the group is not buffered, the device performs second retry operation (access retry) which is accompanied by access to a read-out position (F180).
