PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the strain of a measurement object region with a strain gauge with a gauge length longer than the measurement object region by generating simultaneous equations, using multiple strain values measured by multiple strain gauges as variables. SOLUTION: Strains of multiple regions constituted of a measurement object region 2 and a proximity region 1 adjacent to it are measured by plural strain gauges 3, 4, having gauge lengths longer than the width of the measurement object region 2. Plural simultaneous equations using multiple strain values measured by multiple strain gauges 3, 4 as variables and using the gauge lengths of plural strain gauges 3, 4 and the length of the width of the measurement object region 2 as coefficients are generated. The narrow region 2 is measured by plural strain gauges 3, 4 with high measurement precision, and a region narrower than the lengths of the strain gauges 3, 4 can be measured. This measuring method is particularly effective for measuring the narrow region of a structure which is kept at a high temperature.
