PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition not giving a skin irritation and free from the recrystalization of a salicylic acid derivative by including the salicylic acid derivative and a specific oxyethylenated oxypropylenated ether of a fatty alcohol. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) a salicylic acid derivative of formula I R1 is hydroxyl or an ester functional group of formula II [R4 is a (substituted) amine or the like]; R2 and R3 are each a group of formula III [(n) and (m) are each 0 or 1; R5 is H or a 1-18C (substituted) aliphatic chain or the like]} [e.g. 5-(n-octanoyl)salicylic acid, etc.], or a monovalent or bivalent salt of the derivative (e.g. strontium 5-octanoylsalicylate, etc.), and (B) a 12-22C fatty alcohol ether containing an oxyethylene group and an oxypropylene group (e.g. oxyethylenated oxypropylenated laurylglycol ether, etc.). Preferably, the amount of the component A is 0.001 to 20 wt.% and that of the component B is 0.1-30 wt.% in the composition.
