PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording method realizing seamless reproduction without performing any change for existing control software performing general recording, reproducing, erasing, and the like. SOLUTION: Just after recording operation is started, first, an empty region (empty region being less than the minimum recording length) in which seamless recording cannot be performed is retrieved, after the region is set to a recording improper region, general data recording is performed. Information indicating that the region is already used may be recorded in an empty region on a record medium as a method setting recording improper region. Or, the region is assumed to a defective region and the information may be registered to a defect registering region on a record medium. Further, after recording data, when a region set to a recording improper region is reset to an empty region, it can be utilized as a recording region of data in which seamless operation is not required.
