The present invention is directed to a process for the reaction of a perfluoroalkyl iodide of the formula CF3(CF2)h-I, wherein h is an integer from 4 to 18, with a compound having a terminal olefinic group. The reaction is conducted in an aqueous medium containing a water-soluble solvent and in the presence of dithionite ion at a temperature of from 0 to 40.degree.C and at a pH greater than 7.0. The perfluoroalkyl iodide is used in a process for the preparation of a perfluoroalkyl-allyloxy and perfluoroalkyl-iodopropyloxy-substituted polyaminoacid.
